Reader’s Question:

I drove my friend’s vehicle and I was not aware that the vehicle was not insured in Jackson Hole Wyoming. I received the ticket and had to go to court, my question is, should the owner of the car be responsible for the fine and the violation?

Jackson Hole, WY

It is illegal to drive a vehicle without auto insurance in Jackson Hole WY. Even though you are not the owner of the car it is your responsibility to make sure that the vehicle that you will be driving is insured and if the vehicle owner’s insurance policy will insure when you drive the vehicle. That is your responsibility when you borrow a car from somebody else.

You may see if you can transfer the driving without insurance ticket to the car owner. If they allow this, you may provide the information such as the name and addres of the owner so your ticket will be dismissed and and the court can go after the owner of the automobile.

If it is too late to transfer the ticket to the car owner if you already paid the ticket, you may contact the court listed on the ticket to check if you can still do that or if it is allowed. You may also seek legal help to determine if you can go against the owner of the vehicle

If you are required to obtain an SR22 car insurance because of the driving without insurance ticket, you can get a car insurance quote here in Jackson Hole Wyoming.
